2004 Oregon State Elk Calling Champions

This years calling started with the Youth Division. These young callers proudly stood in front of the crowd and sounded off their best cow and bull elk sounds. Awards were given to the following: Champion – Kyle Syfert (pictured above, center), Grants Pass ; 2nd – Cameron Jarvis, Roseburg ; 3rd – Doug Blasdell, Portland ; and 4th – Lane Whitmore, Myrtle Creek. 

The Adult Division brought several styles of calling with a call off resulting for third place between Wendi Collier and James Kutz. The judges once again scored them tying in total score but this time there was a difference in score for bulls sounds deciding the winner. James Kutz from Idleyld won by one point awarding him 3rd place. Second place went to Andrew O’Brien from Rainier and the Championship along with a check for $100 from South Valley Bank & Trust, went to Jim Hendrickson (pictured above, right) from St. Helens .  

The Professional/Open Division stepped up to finish the competition, the crowd was impressed and amazed by the variety and quality of elk sounds from these professional callers. These competitors traveled from Washington , Idaho and Oregon to compete for this year’s title and $500 in cash. Third place from Kelso , Washington was Mike Hernandez, second place from Bend , Oregon was Walt Rampage and from Sheridan , Oregon the 2004 Oregon State Elk Calling Champion in the Professional/Open division is Matt Lux (pictured above, left).
