Oregon State Elk Calling Contest

 

Rules and Regulations

 

Contestant Conduct:  All contestants must adhere to the rules and regulations of the contest.  Any contestant who harass the announcer, calling officials, scorekeepers, or other contestants will be disqualified and forfeit their entry fee.

 

Registration:  Contestants MUST be pre-registered by 12:30pm on the Saturday of the contest.

 

General Rules:  Only vocal calling or sounds produced by handheld or breath operated instruments may be used.  Electronic devices or props are prohibited. 

 

Calls:  Contestant will base their calls on the following sequence.  The time sequence will be a maximum of two minutes, (one minute for cow/calf sounds, and one minute for bull sounds.)  Each caller will be asked to produce both cow/calf sounds and bull elk sounds by the official.  The official will signal to the caller when the minute has concluded.

 

Scoring:  Judges will score each caller from behind a screen that prevents them from seeing the contestants.  Each judge will evaluate each contestant on the following:

 

            One (1) being the lowest and Twenty (20) being the highest.

Cow/Calf Sounds    One (1) through Twenty (20)

Bull Sounds           One (1) through Twenty (20)

 

There will be three (3) judges. 

Total possible score for contestant will be One Hundred and Twenty (120).

 

Ties:  Contestant’s score by the highest Bull Sounds score will break all ties for First through Third.  If scores are the same, a call off will result and judges will re-score the contestants.

 

Awards:  Awards will be provided for First through Third place.  Awards will be given directly after the competition is concluded and the scores tabulated.

 

Contestants Order of Competition:  The contestants will draw numbers and call in the order of the draw.

 

Divisions:  There will be three divisions:  1) Professional/Open**  2) Adult  3) Youth (15 yrs old and under). ** any entrant who owns a calling business or works as a sales representative for a calling business must enter the Professional/Open division.

 

Special Note:  All contestants must attend the meeting at 1pm.  Contestants will be drawing numbers for calling positions at this time and reviewing the rules of the event.
