2008 OBH Convention Summary

Convention Pictures Elk Calling Contest Hunting Season Awards Trophy Game Awards
It was another GREAT year for the OBH Events Weekend. Both the State Indoor Shoot and the banquet exceeded last year. People actually had to be turned away. These events just keep on growing year after year. Mark your calendars now. We are looking at having the Events Weekend February 28 – March 1, 2009 at Chinook Winds in Lincoln City. This will allow OBH to accommodate the growth. OBH hosted some of the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) youth this year, and plan to do more this year with the expanded facilities.
I would like to see more OBH affiliate clubs involved next year. There were only seven clubs out of seventeen represented at the Field Governor meeting on Sunday morning. During this meeting the four proposals that were printed in the Jan-Feb issue of the magazine were brought to the floor and discussed. All four passed. This means that 1) a member with at least 30 years continuous membership will be considered an honorary lifetime member (does not include a life membership jacket); the lifetime membership payment plan will be discontinued; the date to hold the State 3-D Shoot changes from the last weekend in July (if there is no NFAA conflict-which means it would be changed to another weekend in July) to the State 3-D being held BY the last weekend of July (this allows the VP of Tournaments more flexibility with time schedules) and the number of rounds shot at the State Field on Saturday have been changed to a lesser amount (the total numbers still abide by NFAA rules).
The Game Committee meeting hosted two Oregon State Police personnel that gave an informative presentation about a wildlife forensics program proposal they will be taking to ODFW. With a wildlife forensics program in Oregon, poachers could be caught and prosecuted much quicker than they are now. The Officers are showing the information to other user groups also. The Game Committee members recommended to the E-Board that OBH donate $500 to help get the program implemented.
The members welcomed a presentation from Back Country Horsemen. OBH will be helping to support their endeavors by being there to help when the need arises.
OBH is strongly considering having a booth at the Sportsman's Show in Portland in 2009 to help educate people as to who we are and what we do. Please keep this in mind and help out when you can.

Micki Bradley - Secretary

OBH is a proud supporter of the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP).  This year we held a trail competition with our Events Weekend on Friday before the Indoor Championship began.  It was great fun to watch these student participating in Archery!  OBH hopes to again have the NASP competition at our annual Events Weekend, look for more details in the future.
